Seismic-Scale Evidence of Thrust-Perpendicular Normal Faulting in the Western Outer Carpathians, Poland

Based on the interpretation of 2D seismic profiles integrated with surface geological investigations, a mechanism responsible for formation large scale normal fault zone has been proposed. The fault, here referred to as Rycerka Fault, predominantly dip-slip component detachment located at base Carpathian units. developed due an anticlinal stack within Dukla Unit overlain by Magura Units. Stacking relatively narrow duplex led growth dome-like culmination in lower unit, i.e., Unit, and, consequence differential uplift unit above and outside duplex, upper (the Unit) was subjected stretching. This process invoked faulting along lateral wall facilitated regional, syn-thrusting arc–parallel extension. Horizontal movement plane is result tear accommodating varied rate advancement time not well constrained; however, based superposition criterion, syn -thrusting origin anticipated.
